Ryan Harrison, Sr.

Policy Consultant

Ryan Harrison, Sr., joined the Senate Office of Research in 2017 after serving in the Senate as a senior human resources consultant. Ryan began his career in the Senate as a peace officer, serving as a sergeant-at-arms from 2008 to 2010. He went on to earn his master of science degree in criminal justice at California State University, Sacramento, and his juris doctor at University of California, Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. During law school, Ryan clerked for the chief justice of the California Supreme Court, where he was assigned cases involving a wide range of subject matter, including death penalty appeals, environmental challenges, criminal law, and evidentiary law. Ryan has experience in labor and employment litigation, personal injury law, and corporate litigation. Prior to his return to the Senate, he was seconded to an NBA basketball team, where he assisted in contract negotiations and policy review.

Ryan earned his undergraduate degree in sociology at University of California, Davis, where he played on the Aggie football team. He is a senior fellow of the Nehemiah Emerging Leaders Program and the CSUS 2017 Distinguished Alumni Rising Star award recipient.
