Policy Consultant

John Thompson joined the Senate Office of Research in 2016 and works on business and professions, banking and financial institutions, and insurance issues. Prior to that, he was a science policy fellow with the California Council on Science and Technology, where he worked as a legislative aide to Assembly Member Jay Obernolte.

Thompson received his doctorate in materials science and engineering from Northwestern University. He also has a bachelor’s degree in physics with a minor in music from New York University.
